How much does a website cost in Kuala Lumpur in 2026?

Most pricing guides for Malaysian websites are either thinly disguised sales pitches or padded with caveats so vague they're useless. This one isn't. Here are the actual price bands for a website in Kuala Lumpur in 2026, what each tier delivers, and how to pick the right one.

The four real tiers

Forget the spectrum of "RM 1,000 to RM 200,000". In practice, small businesses in KL choose between four discrete tiers. Each represents a different tradeoff between cost, speed, quality, and accountability.

1. DIY (Wix, Squarespace, WordPress.com): RM 200–800/year

You build it yourself. Templates do most of the design. You pay for hosting and a domain. Suitable for absolute beginners, sole traders with no budget, or businesses where the website is a placeholder, not a sales tool.

What you give up: hours of your own time, professional design, customisation, local SEO that actually works, and accountability when things break. The "free" cost is your weekend.

2. Cheap freelancer (Fiverr, friend-of-friend): RM 1,500–4,000

One person, often part-time, builds you a five-page WordPress site. Fast turnaround, low cost. Quality varies wildly. Half the time you get something usable; the other half you get something you'll redo in 12 months.

What you give up: reliability after launch. Most cheap freelancers disappear when you need a change six months later. No proper SEO setup. WordPress security updates become your problem.

3. Boutique studio (us, and a handful of others): RM 4,000–25,000

A small team (often 1–5 people) builds a modern site on a current stack (Next.js, Webflow, headless CMS) with proper SEO, integrations, and ongoing care. Fixed pricing, named timelines, real portfolios with measurable results.

The sweet spot. For most KL small businesses with revenue above RM 30,000/month, this tier returns more than it costs within 6–12 months — through better conversion, more enquiries, faster sales cycles, and a website that doesn't embarrass you in front of customers.

4. Traditional agency: RM 25,000–150,000+

Established agencies with 10–50 staff, structured project management, formal contracts, account managers. They deliver well but slowly (8–16 weeks), with a price tag that reflects overhead, not just craft.

When it makes sense: enterprise clients, regulated industries, complex integrations, brand systems beyond a website. Overkill for most SMEs.

Ongoing costs nobody tells you about

The launch price is half the conversation. After your site goes live, you'll pay for some combination of:

  • Domain renewal: RM 60–120/year
  • Hosting: RM 200–5,000/year depending on plan
  • SSL certificate: usually included with hosting now
  • Website maintenance: RM 100–500/month if you want someone on call
  • SEO and content: RM 500–10,000/month depending on ambition

Budget RM 300–1,000/month after launch for a serious SME website to keep it secure, updated, and ranking. Anyone telling you a website is a one-off cost is selling, not informing.

What you should pay, by business type

Rough guide based on what we see in KL:

  • Sole trader / new business: RM 2,500–4,500 launch + RM 200–300/month upkeep
  • Established SME (under RM 1M revenue): RM 6,000–12,000 launch + RM 400–600/month upkeep
  • Multi-location SME or higher-revenue business: RM 12,000–25,000 launch + RM 800–1,800/month upkeep
  • E-commerce or specialist needs: RM 15,000–40,000 launch + RM 1,000–3,000/month

Red flags when getting quotes

  • Quote takes more than 3 working days — you'll be waiting on every change too
  • No fixed price; everything is "depends on requirements" — they're going to bill by the hour and overrun
  • Portfolio screenshots without live links — the work may not actually be theirs, or the sites may be dead
  • No mention of mobile performance, SEO setup, or Google Business Profile — they're selling brochureware
  • "It'll take 2–3 months for a 5-page site" — they're slow, overbooked, or both

How we price (and why we publish it)

We charge RM 3,800 for a 5-page Launch tier, RM 9,800 for a 12-page Growth tier, and RM 19,800 for the 25-page Scale tier. Every price is on the website. Every delivery date is fixed in writing. If we miss, you get a credit or refund.

We publish prices because hidden pricing wastes everyone's time. If you're comparison shopping, this lets you decide in five minutes whether we're in your range. If we're not, no hard feelings — there are good people in every tier.
